Masterworks Chamber Music Program

The Masterworks Chamber Music Program adds to the study of high school student string ensembles by providing a professional coach from the Wisconsin Philharmonic, a Master Class by a professional string quartet, and an opportunity to participate in the Masterworks Chamber Music Festival culminating with a live recital performance.
Coaching
Student musicians and their high school string teacher decide what repertoire the string quartet will study during the year. The coaches bring their experience as professional artists to the students and help them to understand the music that they are playing and ways to improve their instrument techniques. The school orchestra director and the coach schedule five sessions to prepare them for public performances for the entire high school orchestra and for the Masterworks Chamber Music Festival in a concert setting.
Master Class
The Master Class consists of intensive coaching and mentoring with members of a professional world-renowned string quartet, as well as interaction with other students, in order to refine their artistry in a stimulating environment. The Master Class will be conducted on a weekday morning followed by fellowship, conversation over lunch, and concludes in the afternoon with an inspirational, and educational live performance by a professional string quartet. Students, staff and parents are all encouraged to attend the concert sponsored by the Wisconsin Philharmonic. The concert is free for participating students and their teachers and is open to the public for a nominal donation of $10.00 per person.
Masterworks Chamber Music Festival
The Wisconsin Philharmonic hosts its annual Masterworks Chamber Music Festival featuring high school string ensembles in the spring. String quartets from Arrowhead, Brookfield East, Kettle Moraine, Menomonee Falls, Mukwonago, New Berlin Eisenhower, Waukesha North, Waukesha South, Waukesha West and other high schools are invited to participate in the Masterworks Chamber Music Festival. Participating string quartets have the opportunity to be featured in a live public performance demonstrating the pieces they have studied. The concert is open to the public and admission is $10. Please see the Education Calendar of Events for the next concert performance date and location. School fees apply for the Masterworks Chamber Music Festival. “I feel especially blessed to have been included in the WSO (now The Wisconsin Philharmonic) Chamber Ensemble Program for the past two years. I have learned a great deal from both the coaches we had, and I really enjoyed working on a professional level with them. I was inspired by their musicianship and knowledge, and working with them has made me a better performer and musician in general.” -Student at Kettle Moraine High School
