Present at the Creation: Celebrating the 250th Birthday of Our Nation's Armed Forces
The Star Spangled Banner
Bob Lowden: Armed Forces Salute
Samuel Barber: Adagio for Strings
Aaron Copland: Symphony No.3 (1946), "Fanfare for the Common Man"
It's a little-known fact that the original three branches of our nation's Armed Forces -- the United States Army, the Navy, and the U.S. Marine Corps -- were all founded in 1775, a year before the signing of our Declaration of Independence! Come join the expert musicians of the Wisconsin Philharmonic and its devoted, longtime Maestro, for a thrilling and profound program that celebrates this once-in-a-lifetime milestone with some of America's greatest classical music for the occasion.
Bob Lowden's Armed Forces Salute is a boisterous medley of all the nation's service hymns, where we get to salute those members of our audience who are veterans or are currently serving our nation. Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings, used immortally in the 1986 movie Platoon, has become our nation's universal hymn to mourn those who have died for our country; and Aaron Copland's wartime masterpiece, his Symphony No.3, will stun you and bring you to your feet, with its magnificent finale based entirely on his FANFARE FOR THE COMMON MAN -- for one hear it here, in the symphonic grandeur that the composer intended!
All taking place on the night before the anniversary of the D-Day Invasion, this promises to be a compact but overwhelming American music experience with the Wisconsin Philharmonic, as we honor the valiant soldiers and sailors our American past, present and future! An event not to be missed in Waukesha County!!
