As part of the youth music education program of the Wisconsin Philharmonic and the outreach program of the University of Wisconsin- Madison School of Music, the world famous Pro Arte String Quartet will perform a concert for the students and the general public at 7:30 pm on March 7th in the Dawes Studio Theater of the Wilson Center for the Arts.
The Pro Arte Quartet (PAQ) is one of the world’s most distinguished string quartets. Founded in Brussels in 1912, it became one of the most celebrated ensembles in Europe and was named Court Quartet to the Queen of Belgium. In 1940, the University of Wisconsin-Madison offered the quartet a permanent campus home when PAQ was stranded in the United States after Nazi forces invaded Belgium. The UW Pro Arte residency was the first of its kind, and became a model now widely emulated throughout the country.
